Letter from the Editor:

I know what it feels like to be a Latino in America right now. The fear is palpable, and the desire to be informed is constantly at war with my need for peace. Being Latino in this nation feels both revolutionary and like there is a perpetual target on your back. For a decade, since President Donald Trump descended the golden escalator at Trump Tower in New York, our community has been under attack.

We have been called drug dealers. We have been called rapists. We have been called murderers.

We watched our communities raided. We witnessed our neighbors being brutalized.

Through it all, we still found times to laugh through the pain and organize against the oppressors. We use art, food, and culture to remind ourselves that our people have endured so much and that we always rise.

We have watched with all of you as we faced unprecedented attacks from politicians and so-called leaders. We pushed through generalized comments meant to incite violence against us and against our neighbors.

During that time, mitú has remained committed to finding, telling, and celebrating the stories of our community. We give voice to the people fighting to bring dignity and compassion to our neighborhoods. We also make sure to find and elevate the moments of joy within the chaos. The moments of love and light that make the fight easier to endure.

While times might be scary, mitú is here. We will continue to celebrate you and the people who make our community and culture so vibrant, from the artists capturing our history in real time to the activists taking to the streets.

More than that, we are going to shine a spotlight on the people infusing our culture deeper into the American zeitgeist. Our culture is American culture, and we will never let anyone forget the importance of our presence.

This year will be no different.

We remain committed to keeping you informed when things happen that will impact our community. We will deliver the hard news to inform you of what you need to know. We will continue to cover pop culture moments that shape our world with the rest of the country.

Most importantly, we will continue to be the unapologetic place for you to feel seen, heard, and valued. mitú is nothing without the people who help us build this digital community.

We are so grateful for the growing community we have created in the digital space, with all of you by our side. You keep us motivated with your engagement. You keep us grounded with your advocacy. You keep us locked in to our mission to speak for, to, and with everyone who identifies as part of the 200 percent.

This year might be starting off rough and scary, and there is no doubt that more scary times lie ahead. However, together, we can make it through 2026. There will be laughs, cries, and screams, but, in the end, somos familia and that is what will see us through this.

La lucha sigue.

Un abrazo fuerte,

Jorge Rodríguez-Stanley
